Light and heavy vehicle technology

Gentle and Heavy motor vehicle expertise, Fourth version, offers a whole textual content and connection with the layout, development and operation of the numerous and sundry elements of recent motorized vehicles, together with the data had to provider and service them. This booklet offers incomparable insurance of either vehicles and heavier cars, that includes over one thousand illustrations.

Nutzfahrzeugtechnik: Grundlagen, Systeme, Komponenten

They comprise a short length of insulating material carrying a conducting cap at each end, these caps being joined by a thin link. This link tapers away from each cap to a controlled centre section which burns away if the current passed becomes excessive. They are used in exactly the same way as a fuse and the same safety measures apply. CHAPTER 3 THE BATTERY As has already been mentioned, the battery is the centre of the electrical system of the car. It receives electricity from the charging circuit and supplies it to all the components that need it.

Thus a discharged battery is recharged more rapidly and the ele:ctricalloads can be balanced more efficiently. The cut out The function of the cut out has already been described as an automatic switch between dynamo and battery which prevents the battery discharging through the dynamo in an endeavour to drive it round, which would be very likely to burn the dynamo windings out. 4] DYNAMO MAINTENANCE 43 Tensionspring Fig. 4-10 Wiring diagram of the cut out. The switch, which is shown in Fig. 4-10, consists of a pair of contacts held open by a spring and closed magnetically.

5-2 One complete wave of the alternating current cycle. this can be rectified by a single diode as shown in Fig. 5-3, but this would result in half the current being lost and having to be dissipated in the form of heat. The next stage is to use two diodes as shown in Chargilg ~~ dissipated in heat Fig. 5-3 Half wave rectification of alternating current. Fig. 5-4 Full wave rectification of half winding. 48 [5 THE ALTERNATOR Fig. 5-4 which does not fully employ the alternator winding, and from this is developed the bridge circuit shown in Fig.
