The spoken word may have faded, but the written word remains; guiding the speaker and the audience back to the punch line. I use the whiteboard in this way often. Best of all, boards can be used to develop, signpost and punctuate an argument; a teaching approach descended directly from sticks in the sand. Presenters can also use written text to encourage the audience to interact. For example, a presenter asks the audience something whilst hovering near to the whiteboard, pen in hand, inviting the audience to offer an input.
