Dressel confirmed that this term was not common at that time, although the activities were similar to what is currently labeled a bachelorette party (personal communication). Rebecca Clark (1985), who also conducted observational research at a male strip show, was the first researcher to use the term “bachelorette party” in describing what motivated some women’s attendance at a particular club. Clark noted that audience members “come to celebrate a birthday party, divorce, or an upcoming wedding (the bachelorette party)” (53).
