However, the term bachelorette party was not used in their research. Dressel confirmed that this term was not common at that time, although the activities were similar to what is currently labeled a bachelorette party (personal communication). Rebecca Clark (1985), who also conducted observational research at a male strip show, was the first researcher to use the term “bachelorette party” in describing what motivated some women’s attendance at a particular club. Clark noted that audience members “come to celebrate a birthday party, divorce, or an upcoming wedding (the bachelorette party)” (53).
