Encoders are described in some detail shortly. Resolvers and Synchros These devices are used in factory applications that require small size, long-term reliability, and accuracy.
The work or tool movements must be in a prescribed path continuously under control. This can be accomplished only through coordination of the movements of the various axes. Every point in the continuous path describing the part shape must be accounted for, whereas in point-to-point systems only the end points of a movement need be explicitly defined. In the case of continuouspath robots, not only the start and finish points are specified but also the path traced by the robot hand as it travels between these two extremes.
Tracking converters have good noise rejection characteristics. Pickup on the synchro leads can be minimized by using twisted shielded cable. (2) Sampling converters that sample and hold the signals, generally on the carrier peaks, and then perform the actual conversion.
