The area has develop into cluttered with sexual tales. From baby abuse scandals to lesbian and gays popping out; from Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas to the travails of Michael Jackson; from sexual surveys to treatment teams - sexual speak has turn into increasingly more obtrusive. This booklet explores the rites of a sexual story-telling tradition. Taking 3 significant examples - rape tales, coming-out tales, restoration tales - it examines the character of those newly rising narratives and the socio-historical stipulations that have given upward thrust to them. It appears on the upward thrust of the women's move, the lesbian and homosexual flow and the 'recovery' flow as harbingers of important social swap that motivate the telling of latest tales. In a robust concluding part, the e-book turns to the broader hindrance of the way tale telling could be altering in a postmodern tradition and the way critical it can be within the production of a participatory democratic political tradition. Ken Plummer illustrates how 'the narrative flip' of cultural stories will be taken up inside sociology. He means that a sociology of reports asks various questions about tales from these posed inside of cultural experiences. Telling Sexual tales is an important contribution to our knowing of sexuality and the cultures of intimacy.

There is a flow of action and producers become consumers whilst consumers become producers. What, then, are the links between the story and the flow of production and consumption? How does one feed into and upon the other such that the making and consuming of stories are closely bound together? A clear example of this is to be found in the work of Constance Penley. Her feminist research interests led her, curiously, to focus upon the TV stories of Star Trek and a large group of women who, since the early 1970s, have been avid fans.

I wished it would. But on the other hand, what would I say? I couldn’t keep that a secret could I? It was some time later that I connected the loss of the penis with the operation they talked about, so that I knew I would have to be rather more possessive if it was going to happen to me. I knew at the time that there was no chance of my having the operation, not because I thought I was not transexual, and therefore that my problem was not so acute, but for the simple reason that I wouldn’t know where to begin, at least not at that early age.

16 Consider the lesbian community and its fiction. 17 Bonnie Zirrimerman, in a marvelous study of this fiction and its changing shape, shows how lesbian communities, selves and relationships have shifted side by side with shifts in the fiction about them. At one point sad; at another clear and political; most recently, more complex and contradictory. She argues: fiction has provided a way for writers to shape the fantasies, politics and everyday experiences of the lesbian community. We write (and read) to reflect our realities, but also to create new realities….
