The aim of this ebook is to suggest a conception of transvestism and secondary transsexualism, and to supply details relating those behaviors. My view of those subject matters is far like that of Benjamin (1966) and approximately all different gender researchers. It holds syndrome of comparable behaviors may be pointed out, starting from fetishism via transvestism, transgenderism, and secondary transsexualism. yet de scription is something and clarification of explanations is one other. I believe different gender researchers (e. g. , eco-friendly & cash, 1969; Stoller, 1985c) who've concluded that the reasons of transvestism and transsexualism re major mostly unknown. however the incontrovertible fact that we won't absolutely clarify the origins of transvestism or secondary transsexualism doesn't suggest entire conception is very unlikely. certainly, first-class theoretical statements were proposed pertaining to every one of those subject matters (Ban croft, 1972; Buckner, 1970; Buhrich & McConaghy, 1977a; cash & Ehrhardt, 1972; Ovesey & individual, 1973, 1976; individual & Ovesey, 1974a,b; Stoller, 1968a, 1974, 1985c). it truly is with enormous admire, for that reason, that we recognize either the powerful shoulders on which we stand, and in addition the simpler indisputable fact that we have now drawn seriously upon the various contributions of those researchers. The strategy i've got followed has a similar medical problems that faced all of those past workers.

Blanchard (1985a,b) rl0tes that, although the question of the number of types of transsexuals has not yet been settled, there is strong evidence pointing toward these two groupings. Using questionnaires to measure erotic attraction, he studied 163 male-to-female transsexuals who had been divided into four groups: heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, and asexuals. He found that the bisexual and asexual groups are best classified as subtypes within the heterosexual grouping; hence, the two major categories-heterosexual TSs and homosexual TSs-appear to be clearly identified.
He states, however, that cross dressing is a "constant" background theme in his daily experience and that he has occasionally experienced persistent fantasies of living full time as a woman. This he has never attempted to do, even when excellent opportunities to do so were available. Such fantasies are very common in fetishistic transvestites, but few act upon them when given the chance. Mark: A Fetishistic Transvestite with Some Marginal Type Behaviors Mark is a 50-year-old caucasian male raised by his natural parents whom he describes as showing average warmth toward their three children.

Primary transsexualism occurs in both men and women, possibly in equal numbers, although these statistics leave much to be desired. It is estimated that there are between 6,000 and 10,000 postoperative transsexuals (combining both the primary and secondary variations) in the United States, but precise numbers are not available. It is not known how many individuals may be living in a full-time cross-gender role who do not seek sex-reassignment surgery, but we believe the number is far greater than the surgically reassigned group.
