The curvature of the cornea is less than that of the sclerotic so that, viewing the eyeball as a whole (as in a post-mortem specimen), the cornea appears flatter than the remainder of the eyeball. In such a specimen there may be obvious shrinkage owing to draining away of some of the aqueous fluid into the spaces of Fontana (especially in the human eye) and also into the suprachoroidal space (especially in the dog and lower orders of mammals). AQUEOUS HUMOUR The aqueous humour is a saline fluid and it occupies that portion of the eyeball bounded by the anterior surface of the lens and the posterior layer of the cornea.
